Curriculum

The school prepares boys for Common Entrance and Scholarship exams at the age of 13. In recent years, the majority of boys have gone on to their chosen school and top Scholarships have been achieved with classes set for ability at the top of the school so that pupils can learn at the best pace.

The curriculum is governed by the syllabus laid down for the Common Entrance Examination though Brockhurst teaches a very wide curriculum which encompasses more than the requirements of the National Curriculum and in addition a generous allocation is made in every boy's timetable for Music, Art and Physical Education. All boys study English, Mathematics, Science, French Technology, History, Geography and Scripture from the outset. They normally begin Latin in the third year and German thereafter. Boys sitting for scholarships are also taught Greek, while Russian has also been studied at the top of the school. The school has a well-equipped computer centre and computing is taught to all boys as a subject in its own right as well as being used in other subjects as an aid to learning.

Pupils' progress is continually monitored and assessed, with progress reports every few weeks and a more substantial document at the end of the term.

The Special Needs' department is run by qualified staff for those boys who need extra help in the main subjects.
